Looking to beat the heat on your trip to Boston this summer? Take one of our recommended day trips to the beach.
One of my favorite options in the area is Singing Beach in Manchester by the Sea. This is the best option if you don’t have a vehicle and are still looking for some fun in the sun. The beach offers lovely sand, plus rocky outcroppings ideal for climbing and privacy. Singing Beach is a 45 minute train ride from North Station and a 10 minute stroll to the beach once you arrive in Manchester.
Known as one of the most picturesque swimming beaches in all of New England, Crane beach in Ipswich is an excellent option within a 1 hour drive from the city. More than 1200 acres of beachfront, dunes, and maritime forest are managed for recreation as well as conservation. Ample parking is available at Cranes. When visiting Ipswich, stop by The Clam Box for tasty, local seafood delights.
Finally one of the truly best Massachusetts beaches is Wingaersheek beach located in Gloucester. Within a 1 hour drive from the city, Wingaersheek is a great family beach with some of the finest white sand in the area. There are climbing rocks and small tide pools that are fun for the kids to explore. The parking lot can get very busy on the weekends, so starting out early is recommended.
